Kaylee & Ria’s Bristol Wedding
‘Same sex weddings’ is a bit of a BS term isn’t it? A better name is simply weddings, right? Although, on the other hand it is nice to celebrate that this is a thing. It took so long to get the point where marriage between two girls or two boys was allowed that we should make a bit of a song and dance about it. Who knows what to do for the best.
So this was my first time photographing a wedding between a couple of the same sex – two girls, Kaylee & Ria and I did notice a difference to a ‘mixed sex wedding’ – there was a real buzz of excitement and encouragement for this couple as we passed through the streets. Yes this was a city centre wedding (held at Bristol Registry Office) and there’s always more attention for a bride in the city but this was different. People were honking waving, coming over to talk to the girls, wishing encouragement, asking questions and taking pictures.
This could have been because it was a same sex wedding but equally it it could have been because Kaylee & Ria looked ridiculously good, both individually and as a couple. One in a wedding dress carried on a jet plane across the Atlantic Ocean, the other in a stunning blue suit. It was also a Friday and it was a super sunny afternoon (following a morning soaking). Whatever the reason this was one hell of a wedding to photograph, fun from start to finish.
And the backstory of this lovely couple is that they met on Instagram, two girls fell in love on a photo sharing app, one in Bristol the other in Texas and here they are so loved up, yeehaw. With their love being so wrapped up in photography it felt like a privilege to be the photographer at their wedding.
Congratulations to you both.
